Welcome to our Tiny Tina's Wonderlands review! Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a split screen shooter available on PS4, PC and more that perfectly blends fantasy and chaotic action. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands takes the irreverent style of the Borderlands series and blends it with high fantasy roleplaying. Players explore a tabletop inspired world full of unpredictable encounters, powerful weapons, spell casting, and unique bosses, following Tiny Tina as the eccentric dungeon master of this chaotic fantasy adventure.
Here's where Tiny Tina's Wonderlands delivers and where it comes up short, with 5 pros and 3 cons drawn from our full metric breakdown.
Metric Gamer scores Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 4.1/5 — "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands earns a strong rating thanks to its inventive fusion of shooting and spellcasting, stunning graphics, and replayable co op experience. While co op customisation and pacing occasionally hold it back, the core gameplay and fantastical visuals deliver a highly engaging adventure. The story blends humor and fantasy effectively, and the gameplay loop ensures lasting appeal for action RPG fans."
Trading out grenades for a dedicated spell slot is a total game-changer for the combat loop. Instead of hoarding consumables, having magic on a cooldown like dropping giant meteors or summoning hydras, makes every fight feel much more active and chaotic. The dual-classing system is the real highlight here, offering enough depth to let anyone tinkers with broken character builds until they find a perfect synergy. The only thing holding it back from a perfect 5 is the endgame; the Chaos Chamber is a blast initially, but it eventually turns into a repetitive grind once the room layouts start feeling a bit too familiar.
Co-op mode is easily the best way to play, as it gives everyone their own separate loot drops and scales enemies to each player's specific level. This completely removes the old-school headache of high-level players stealing all the gear or one-shotting every boss. However, technical hiccups with the Shift servers are still a reality. Expect the occasional lag spike or a teleporting enemy during cross-play sessions, which can be frustrating during a high-stakes boss run. It’s a top-tier co-op experience, provided the servers are having a good day.
On the surface, the customization is huge. This is the first time the series lets you build a Fatemaker from scratch with a deep character creator. But there’s a massive catch for anyone playing split-screen: the UI is a mess. When playing on the same TV, the item cards get squashed and cut off, meaning its difficult to see a weapon's basic stats without manually inspecting every drop. It’s a frustrating one step forward, two steps back situation, where the character looks great, but managing their backpack with a friend can be a tedious chore.
Visually, the game is a breath of fresh air. The Overworld map is a creative masterstroke, designed to look like a literal tabletop game with giant thumbtacks and soda cans scattered around as bridges. The color palette is incredibly vibrant, and the spell effects are some of the best the series has ever produced.
The story writing feels focused and genuinely funny, leaning heavily into the chaotic game night vibe. The way the world literally changes on the fly based on Tiny Tina’s mood adds a layer of charm that keeps the campaign moving at a brisk pace. It only misses a 5 because it feels a bit short; the credits roll just as the story really starts to find its rhythm, leaving you wanting a few more chapters of that tabletop madness.
